Stars of the hit international reality show ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ have descended on the Northern Territory’s iconic Red Centre as celebrations kick off around the region to mark the 30th anniversary of cult classic film, The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
Nearby resort, Discovery Resorts – Kings Canyon, joined the party in fabulous style, with a dazzling re-naming to ‘Queens Canyon’ in celebration of the anniversary year of the iconic movie.
An Australian icon in its own right, Kings Canyon featured prominently in the famous film’s finale, when the three lead characters Tick, Adam and Bernadette climbed the Canyon in full drag regalia. The Kings Canyon Rim Walk, accessible to travellers, is also home to ‘Priscilla’s Crack’ – a spectacular lookout that the characters travelled through in the Oscar-winning 1994 film.
With support from Tourism NT and Discovery Resorts, US and UK-based Drag Queens Utica Queen (@queenutica), Joey Jay (@joeyjayisgay) Ginny Lemon (@ginnylemon69) and Sister Sister (@officialsistersister) made the pilgrimage to the Northern Territory’s Red Centre to join the anniversary celebrations, culminating in a visit to Kings 'Queens Canyon’ to recreate the famous canyon climb in drag.
At Discovery Resorts - Kings Canyon, the group participated in a range of vibrant experiences at the property, including Bruce Munro’s Light-Towers; installation, a spectacular helicopter ride over Queens Canyon and an epic outback dinner.
Prior to their ‘Queen’s Canyon’ adventure at Discovery Resorts – Kings Canyon, The group partook in festivities at the annual FabALICE Festival in Alice Springs, a four-day showcase of comedy, cabaret, live music, community pageant and social activities celebrating all things The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
